Lean Thinking by James Womack

Right now I’m reading Lean Thinking by James Womack. It is an amazing book and I look forward to telling you more about it. There is a quote early on in the book (page 6) that is really powerful:

“We discover that as economies have gyrated, stock markets have crashed, and the poster companies of the 1990s hailed in other business books have flown a ballistic trajectory, our lean exemplars – led by Toyota – have defied the fate of most firms featured in successful business books. They have continued their methodical march from success to success and have done it the hard way by creating real and truly sustainable value for their customers, their employees, and their owners.”

FastCap featured at McKillican Factory

Read about a tour of McKillican’s new factory in Las Vegas, NV through the eyes and voice of wooditis.blogspot.com. Here is an excerpt of the story (the part that talks about FastCap):

“Let’s not forget their FastCap inventory. I’ve been wanting a couple of FastCap’s folding chisels, and ended up buying a set. Here is their display of FC’s goodies – everything from personal gear like gloves and goggles to their specialty tape measures, and their “Third Hand” – very helpful when remodeling. I know, I have several! (Yes, confessions of a tool junkie.)”

Thank you, Wood It Is, for the recognition.

National Hardware Show 2011

Today I just finished walking through the National Hardware Show in Las Vegas. It was incredible as I walked the show looking for new innovative new products. While there I came across a whole bunch of great small-time inventors who have brought their products to market with the dream of making it big time. It was very exciting to them them and I really enjoyed it. Next year’s show will be May 1-3.

What? Flush Cut Pliers and Guitars

FastCap is all about innovation, thinking lean, and turning ideas into reality. Some of the best ideas, however, come from professional woodworkers and customers who have first-hand experience with our products. When Taylor Guitars first began, I was privileged enough to help build the first 2,000 guitars for the company alongside Bob Taylor himself. Not only did I learn a great deal about wood working skills, but he also realized that great ideas come from those who are knowledgeable within their field of expertise. Watch this video to hear more about my personal experience with Bob Taylor and the creation of the Flush Cut Trimmer. Check out the End Nippers on the FastCap web site.

If you are a woodworker and have a great idea, send it in to paul@nullfastcap.com. FastCap pays up to five percent royalty and we will manufacture, market, and sell your idea all over the world. This is our way of saying, “Thank you!”
